We use vehicles of varying sizes to deliver a skip, so ensure that your premises and the neighbourhood roads leading to your site can handle the size of the vehicle that will be visiting the property. Also, since some vehicles offload from the side or the rear, this will also need to be taken into account when telling us about the layout of your site. If in doubt, simply phone us up and request information on the exact dimensions of the vehicle we will be deploying so we can plan effectively together – this will avoid any potential disruption or damage during delivery and collection.
Bear in mind the length and width of our vehicles and make sure to spot any potential hazards that could hinder the delivery and collection of your skip. This could include parked cars, bridges, gates, phone wires, overhanging trees and other restrictions or obstacles that could pose hazards to our team – let our drivers know before booking.
You may need to clear your driveway of vehicles or other items you may need, as when the skip is deposited, nothing will be able to leave or enter your driveway while the skip is in position.
If you share a driveway with your neighbour, it’s advisable to consult with them prior to arranging skip hire. This allows you to inform them of the arrival of a skip, but also to assess whether there is enough space on your side of the driveway for the skip to be placed.
If you don’t have a driveway, the skip will need to go on a public road or highway – this will require a special skip permit, and our team can assist you with obtaining one.
Accounting for Manoeuvring
Perhaps you live in a cul-de-sac or an area that’s difficult to access? Our experts will need to know beforehand to ensure our vehicles can access your property, make the delivery and turn around safely without causing disruption to your neighbourhood. Road widths differ across the UK, with narrow or curved roads potentially presenting challenges for our team, parked cars also present a similar problem. If you’re short of space or if the layout of your neighbourhood will make manoeuvring difficult, please let our team know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
The beauty of skips is their ability to store a variety of different waste materials, ranging from construction materials to waste produced from home DIY projects. However, there are a select few materials that should be collected and treated separately from the main load – namely electronics, chemicals, tyres, asbestos, hazardous waste etc. For a full list of unsuitable waste that should not go in a skip, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to offer alternative, safe ways of disposing of this waste.
Manholes and Sewers
Manholes and sewers may not be able to withstand the weight of a skip or truck placed on them. To prevent any avoidable damage to your property, please let us know about the location of manholes and sewers so we can bypass these areas wherever possible.
