Waste collection changes in East Renfrewshire
You may have been recycling for some time but there are some places in the UK which are only latching onto the idea of reducing the waste that is sent to landfill and are finally coming round to the idea that recycling is the way forward.
For most of us, recycling has become part of our daily lives and we are used to the separation of the waste that we put into our regular bin and what goes into the recycling box.
East Renfrewshire Council are introducing new food waste collections and rubbish bin uplifts are going to become fortnightly rather than weekly in a bid to encourage individuals to start recycling. There will continue to be weekly collections of garden waste which is where residents will be dumping their food waste.
It really is true that it is small and simple initiatives such as this will make a big difference on the grand scale of things and individuals shouldn’t be put off by recycling. It is very easy and your local authority want to assist you in any way they can to ensure that you are doing your little bit for the environment so that as a whole we make a big difference.

Whatever type of waste it might be, it needs to be disposed of in the correct manner. When it comes to household waste, our local authority has a waste management company come and collect our waste from our homes and dispose of it at a landfill site or takes items that can be recycled to a recycling plant. If this wasn’t done, the waste would become dangerous and could cause serious health problems.
Waste management companies have a wealth of experience when it comes to handling waste and they can be hired to tackle any waste problem that you might have. They will have the procedures in place to ensure that the waste that is being produced is removed and disposed of carefully so that it does not pose a threat to anybody. This waste might be chemical waste or medical waste, all of which can be rather dangerous.
Household waste however can most be recycled, and many householders are latching on the ideas behind recycling and are making a conscious effort to ensure they are disposing of their waste in the correct manner.

After the announcement of the budget on Wednesday, it has emerged that there are concerns that the new Coalition Government not taking the matter of waste recycling seriously enough according to a number of energy and recycling companies.
Although it appears that there are going to be harsh cuts for everybody, there seems to be little interest over what will happen over the coming parliament with regard to waste and recycling and how individuals as well as businesses need to approach these matters.
Waste and recycling is a very sensitive issue and most local authorities take guidance from central government in terms of how many collections should take place and also what can and cannot be recycled.
Energy and waste companies are concerned that waste and recycling will be targeted when it comes to making serious cuts in the public sector and many influential individuals have warned against this, stating that it would result in Britain going back to its old ways when it comes to the management and disposal of waste. Many believe the waste and recycling will be seen as an easy target that could withstand a cut in budget, however this is clearly not the case.

Many householders have been frustrated over previous years about the fact that some councils in England and Wales only collect household waste every two weeks. With most family household sizes averaging between four and six people, the amount of waste that is accumulated over 2 weeks in enormous and it is not practical or safe to leave rubbish for that long when waiting for it to be collected.
However, the Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles yesterday has clearly stated that he does not want to see Council’s being pressurised into abandoning weekly bin collection services. This brings a welcomed sign of relief by many householders who are fed up with their piling mountain of rubbish. Waste management companies will be allowed to get on with their job properly again.
Mr Pickles has said that he will be writing to the Audit Commission and instructing them to withdraw the guidance to local authorities encouraging them to move to a fortnightly collections service. Mr Pickles is coming across at being extremely forthright when it comes to the Audit Commission as they have had a number of clashes since the Coalition Government came into power on May 6.

According to the latest reports, the Communities and Local Government minister, Eric Pickles is backing the scheme which in order to encourage individuals to recycle, would see their bins being micro chipped. The household bins would be fitted within microchips in order to find out where they are collected and how much they weigh on collection. This is also to discourage individuals from throwing away items which can easily be recycled.
We may already think that we live in an environment which is too closely monitored and that the Big Brother culture has gone on long enough, however, in order to successfully achieve the targets set by government, there needs to be a serious overhaul of how we look at recycling in this country and how we are to tackle the issue of waste management.
Waste management is big business in the UK with many householders as well as various types of businesses being unsure about what they can and cannot put into their waste disposal. Waste management companies ensure the smooth running of waste removal systems in various locations to ensure that there is no back up of waste.

Many people are unsure about what waste management involves when it is first mentioned to them. It can mean an awful lot of things but generally it means the collection, transportation, processing and disposing of waste. Waste can mean almost anything from household waste to waste from a construction site to waste from a school or hospital.
Different waste requires different treatments to ensure that it is safe to be either recycled or to be put into a landfill. Generally, all waste is treated and examined to ensure that there is nothing that can be recycled and made into something else.
When you throw away your household rubbish, it is sorted through to ensure that there are no plastics, tins, cans and glass items as well as paper and cardboard that can all be recycled and made into new products.
Recycling both at household and industrial level is essential when you produce large amounts of waste like we do in Britain. It can be very easily to forget how serious the problem of waste is in the UK and that we need to take better care of our landfill sites to ensure that we do not create any problems for the future generations.

North Yorkshire County Council and York Council have to discuss a new waste disposal strategy after it was revealed that the Councils desperately needed to change their policies relating to the removal and disposal of the waste produced in this area.
However, there are fears that the radical plans that the councils have for their waste disposal is going to cause huge implications on the future generations who live in the area and they are being urged to think carefully before making any radical decisions about what should happen to their waste.
There are currently plans to construct a multi million pound waste incinerators in the area, however there are people who are both for and against these plans. The discussions about the new waste disposal policies as well as the incinerator will be discussed at a meeting later this month with a variety of specialists in the field of waste management being in attendance.
The residents of North Yorkshire will have a chance to discuss what their views are at a later consultation period once the councils have decided on a number of alternative plans of action.

You may think that recycling is a complete waste of time, if you do, you are wrong. Recycling is essential for creating a sustainable environment for us all to live in and we need to ensure that we take care of it wherever we can. In addition, you can save money by recycling.
Some councils believe that recycling could save them £70,000 provided that they are using the right refuse collectors and utilising the materials that have been recycled properly.
Recycling involves plastics, paper and tins all being recycled and reused as something else. Sometimes the items are sold on to other companies who utilise them and make them into new tin cans, recycled paper pads and new milk bottles. It is a very clever and ingenious way of ensuring that our waste products don’t get put into a landfill and forgotten about very quickly.
We should all take an active role when it comes to recycling because the environment can not be taken for granted. If it is taken for granted, we will not have beautiful countryside, our towns will become polluted and rubbish riddled.

Under plans by the Labour party, if they win the general election on May the 6th, we will all have four wheelie bins outside of our home to help us tackle the issue we have in the country with waste and to aid recycling.
Some would argue that not everybody has space for four wheelie bins outside of their home, but we need to think of the consequences of not recycling or managing our waste properly.
To keep up with the amount of waste that household produce, there will only be fortnightly collections. However, if you are properly recycling and sorting through your rubbish, you will not have a rubbish bin that is overflowing.
On most packaging nowadays it says whether or not it can be recycled. Labour plans seem to be following the lines of many other European countries, in particular Germany where they are very keen on recycling. It only seems sensible that we act now to deal with the massive problem that Britain has with the growing number of landfill sites and act decisively to ensure that we are recycling as much of our waste as possible.

If Labour stay in power after the upcoming General Election, they are planning to double the number of wheelie waste collection bins each household should have, which also means that the space required to store them will also need to expand.
The government is aiming to boost recycling rates and save money by switching the number of waste collections from weekly to fortnightly, which they believe requires households to have more waste containers on their property.
This is how the plans will affect different sized homes:
• Typical two bedroom homes will need two bins instead of one
• Three bedroom homes will need to have room set aside to store four wheelie bins instead of the two required at the moment
• Four bedroom homes will need space for five bins instead of three
This new scheme will also affect the building of new homes, as the space required for the bins will have to be included in plans.
The Conservative Party have criticised Labour’s plans, saying:
