More green jobs and investment in sustainability: the Green Party manifesto
The release of the Green Party manifesto has revealed that the political organisation has extremely ambitious plans for waste management in the UK.
Leader of the Greens, Caroline Lucas, has outlined the party’s plans for large scale investment in renewable energy generation, green technologies and facilities and energy saving. She explains how, if successful in the upcoming General Election, the party propose to spend:
• £20 billion on wind and other renewable sources, creating up to 80,000 new jobs as a result
• An extra £3 billion on waste disposal and recycling services and initiatives, although the focus will mainly be on the reduction and reuse of waste
In order to spend this extra money on cutting CO2 emissions – hitting an incredibly ambitious 70% domestic recycling rate in the process – and generating more energy from waste and other renewable sources, the Green Party propose to cut funding for defence and road projects, as well as scrapping Labour’s ID cards scheme.
The Green Party insist that they are not single-minded, however; they claim that further investment in sustainability and thousands of new green jobs will boost the economy as well as helping to tackle climate change.
