PRAG publishes information booklet for packaging waste disposal
The Packaging Resources Action Group (PRAG) has released a new publication designed to improve communication between waste disposal companies, local authorities and producers on the subject of packaging recycling.
The booklet is called ‘Partnership and Packaging: Working together to optimise environmental performance’; PRAG intends it to be used as an informative resource as well as a way to stop those in the industry pinning responsibility on each other for the recycling and waste disposal of packaging.
In the document, PRAG also sends a very clear message: that although retailers and manufacturers are working to reduce packaging as much as possible, everyone involved must accept that some packaging is needed to protect products and that not all types packaging can feasibly be recycled.
A representative from PRAG, Jane Bickerstaffe, has explained how the booklet aims to help the packaging waste management industry work towards a united stance on the issue. Speaking of the initial stages of producing the booklet, she says:
“One of the things which came out early on is that we suffer from inconsistent information. We wanted to identify some key messages and take the kind of questions that councils and retailers regularly get asked by the public.”
