Smaller bins will encourage recycling
According to government reports that were published earlier this week, there is a clear need to encourage the use of recycling bins up and down the UK. In order to actively achieve the targets for recycling, it has been suggested that by having smaller general waste bins that more individuals would turn to recycling in order to ensure that their waste fits in their new bin.
The Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has been charged with the task of tackling the recycling problems that currently exist and has said that Labour’s plans to ‘pay as you throw’ will certainly be ditched and they will rather than punishing those for throwing waste away, will reward individuals who recycle more. The ‘bin tax’ was not a winner for the previous Government and Eric Pickles is determined to undo the ‘meddling’ legislation that has been put forward in terms of recycling and waste disposal.
In most Local Authorities, the bins are now collected on a fortnightly basis which is also designed to encourage households to think before they throw and recycle wherever possible. It does not take long to get into the habit and routine of recycling once you have got the hang of the different items that can and cannot be recycled.
