Scotland to recycle 70% of waste

We have all been made aware over the last few years of the importance of recycling, especially when we consider how many landfill sites there are across Great Britain and how quickly they are filling up.

In response to calls for more to be done regarding our waste and how we manage our waste, Scotland has come up with plans to recycle at least 70% of its waste by 2025. The Scottish government have also set a target that no more than 5% of all waste is to be sent to a landfill site.

The Scottish Government realise how important it is for us to continue with the recycling efforts and try and improve them wherever possible. The Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead stated that Scotland wish to be become a zero waste country in a bid to improve the environment and do their bit for the economy. He recognises that there is a need for education when it comes to separating waste to ensure that the right items are sent to be recycled.

It is estimated on average that families throw away £400 worth of food every year that could easily be used up if we thought carefully about the contents of our fridge, how we purchase food and how it is eaten. This is pointless waste which can easily be tackled.
