Halton next in line for RecycleBank scheme
Following a highly successful trial period, Halton Borough Council has decided to roll out the RecycleBank scheme to the entire area. Halton will be the second town to implement the waste management scheme area-wide, following the announcement that the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are to fully roll out RecycleBank to all its 60,000 households this summer.
What is RecycleBank?
RecycleBank is an American scheme which aims to reward people for recycling more. Households are issued with special bins with sensors inside them, which reveal when weighed how much each property has managed to recycle. Based on this, residents will then receive rewards in the form of retail vouchers and discounts.
During the trial period in Halton, participating residents earned a combined total of 3.8 million RecycleBank points, and residents have so far ordered more than 4,200 rewards in the area.
After covering just 10,000 households in Halton during the pilot scheme, the borough council plans to roll out the scheme to all 47,000 households in the area by the year 2011. The rollout is expected to being at some time in the next few months.
