Encouraging recycling
With the news that the government are going to be scrapping the previous government’s plans to introduce fines for those households who produce more waste, it has been welcomed by many councils across the UK.
There has been a pilot scheme in the south of England which has seen households rewarded for recycling more, rather than disposing or more general waste. Incentives such as this which actively encourage recycling and also to think about the waste that we sent to landfill is essential if we wish to contribute towards climate change and our environment both locally and nationally.
Most of us are aware of what can and cannot be recycled and most local authorities offer the facilities to recycle, by providing specially marked bins and also designated areas where you can recycle large amounts of clothing, paper, plastics and glass items.
If you are unsure about what can and cannot be recycled in your area, you should in the first instance contact your local authority who can give you guidance on where your local facilities are. They will also ensure that you have the correct number of bins to help with your recycling efforts.
